The Nintendo family includes everyone from Pikachu to the plumber. Now indie gem Off is preparing to join the Nintendo Switch’s catalog with a physical release. This bizarre RPG helped inspire everything from Omori and Suits to Undertale. It’s exciting that Nintendo fans will finally get a chance to experience the Slugger’s story later this year. As a fan of Mortis Ghost’s surreal adventure, however, there are two weird RPGs I still want to see on Switch. Now that Off is joining the Nintendo family, is there any hope for Hylics and Yume Nikki to do the same?
Off Is Getting Switch and Steam Ports in 2025
Even if you played Off‘s original RPG Maker version, there’s good reason to be hyped about the new release. The definitive version features new areas, bosses, balance improvements, and even an all-new battle system. We didn’t exactly need more reasons to explore the monochromatic Slugger’s world, but I won’t say no to making a great game better. From an amusement park full of terrified guests to a farm that extracts metal from cattle, Off built a reputation for being as imaginative as it is fun. It was a key member in a crew of games that defined a generation of hidden gems and experimental RPGs.
Though Hylics and Yume Nikki are both available on Steam, there’s no indication they’ll be joining Off on the Switch. Switch players can dive into the fan reimagining YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- for a taste of the same experimental gameplay and worldbuilding, but as for true ports? Nintendo has none to offer, at least so far. As some of the only Off contemporaries to rival its brand of strange, the absence of Yume Nikki and Hylics feels more pressing than ever. Here’s hoping that with Off getting Steam and Nintendo Switch editions later in 2025, its quirky comrades could follow.
