This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

Following on from the recent announcement trailer, Square Enix has launched the official website for Final Fantasy XVI. Due to launch on the PlayStation 5 at an unspecified date in the future, not much is know about the 16th mainline title in the Final Fantasy series, other than what was shown in the trailer, of course.

Thankfully, the newly launched website gives players a bit more of an insight into the world they will inhabit during a playthrough of Final Fantasy XVI, as well as the characters they’ll be sharing it with.

Set in Valisthea, a land blessed in the light of the Mothercystals, players will be in control, or at least the company of three characters. Clive, Josh, and Jill. Clive has been noted as the main protagonist, tasked with protecting his younger brother, Joshua.

Final Fantasy

There’s talk of warring nations fighting over cystals, revenge, tragic events, and carrots. It all sounds like an amalgamation of classic Final Fantasy mixed in with Game of Thrones. I’d recommend taking a look at the information on the website, though, as it delves more into each character, as well as the different realms of Valisthea.

All of this is accompanied by some pretty nice art for the characters, realm flags, and Eikons (summons) that inhabit the game. There’s quite a bit of information for fans to read over and over as they await more news on the next Final Fantasy. Head on over to the site and take a look for yourselves, even if just for the art.

Despite the little information available, it all seems very Final Fantasy, and I’m looking forward to seeing more, especially after the remake of 7 proved that action combat can be done right.

Are you a fan of the Final Fantasy series? Let us know in the comments if you’re excited to play Final Fantasy XVI or not, whenever it releases. The next big information reveal is scheduled for 2021, so we’ll be sure to bring you more then. See you next year.
