SEGA has officially released the animated Sonic Frontiers prologue, entitled Divergence. The prologue focuses on Knuckles and explains how he ended up in the Starfall Islands, and reveals more information about the story of Sonic Frontiers.
Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence… and Knuckles
The official Sonic Frontiers animated prologue Divergence has been released by SEGA and Sonic Team a week before the official release of the game.
Entitled Divergence, the animated short is directed by Tyson Hesse and written by Sonic Frontiers’ main writer Ian Flynn. It was originally teased during the Sonic Central presentation held back in June.
Not to be confused with the Sonic Frontiers prologue comic that was released back in October, entitled Convergence, this 6-minute animated short focuses on Knuckles and how he arrived at the Starfall Islands after uncovering a secret shrine hidden on Angel Island.
The two-part comic prologue Convergence, by contrast, focuses strictly on Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Dr. Eggman. Part one was released on October 18, 2022, via the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter page, and part two was released the following week on October 25, 2022.
The description for Sonic Frontiers: Divergence reads:
“For as long as he can remember, Knuckles has preferred to operate on his own. As guardian of Master Emerald, he knows every corner of his island and every secret it holds… or so he thought. A sudden discovery is about to turn his world upside down.”
Sonic Frontiers is set to release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Microsoft Windows on November 8, 2022, about a week from now. Fans can pre-order the game now to receive special rewards and sign up for the official newsletter to receive Sonic’s spa shoes from Sonic Adventure as an in-game reward.
Special Monster Hunter-themed DLC will also be coming to the game a week after the November 8 release.
