The Pokemon Company International has released the first official trailer showcasing new information about the newest Pokemon, Wiglett. Wiglett is the 17th Pokemon introduced so far in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and was teased yesterday in a shot during the World Pokemon Ecological Survey interactive webinar held on the Japanese Pokemon site.
Everything To Know About Wiglett in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!
Wiglett was first teased during the World Pokemon Ecological Survey on the Japanese Pokemon Scarlet and Violet website on September 28, 2022, which functioned similarly to a live webinar in which viewers could interact. It was described as being similar to Diglett, but is not actually the same species, and appears to represent the concept of convergent evolution.
This occurs when different species encounter similar ecological niches and pressures that force them to adapt in similar ways to their environment and develop similar characteristics as a result. A real-world example of this would be sharks and dolphins, and, a fan has even recently taken the time to explain this further.
The Pokemon Company has also released more detailed information about Wiglett in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. We can now confirm that it is a Water-type, known as the Garden Eel Pokemon, is 3’11”, weighs 4 lbs, and has either the ability Gooey or Rattled.
Gooey was originally the signature ability of the Goodra evolutionary line and makes it so that when a Pokémon with the Ability is hit by a contact move that makes contact, the attacker’s Speed is reduced. Rattled makes it so that when the Pokémon is hit by a Bug-, Dark-, or Ghost-type move, its Speed is increased by one stage. It does immunity granted to these types, however.
The official descriptions for Wiglett read:
It may look like Diglett, but it’s actually a completely different species of Pokémon. Wiglett pokes a part of its body out of the sand to feed in the ocean. It’s still unclear what the rest of its body hidden in the sand is like or how long it might be.
Boasting an exceptional sense of smell, Wiglett is able to pick up scents from over 60 feet away. It has a skittish disposition and is constantly cautious of its surroundings. When it notices the scent of other Pokémon, Wiglett burrows into the sand to conceal itself.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be released on November 18, 2022, exclusively 18 for Nintendo Switch, and pre-orders are available now. Feel free to check out the Wiglett trailer for yourself!
