In this day and age, it’s becoming increasingly common for people to make their own food at home. You can, for example, make cheese with very few kitchen supplies. In fact, all it takes is some milk. One food influencer from Ohio tried his hand at creating his own ricotta cheese after being inspired by a viral video on TikTok. But what was most surprising was his effortless decision to donate to a family in Gaza at the same time.
Liam (TikTok/theplantslant) starts off his video by sharing a viral TikTok, which were quick and easy instructions on how to make cheese. What made this video particularly captivating was the TikToker themselves, Mrgirlface. “How to make cheese for people who don’t know how to do anything and don’t have anything and are bad at everything and [expletive] everything up all the time,” Mrgirlface says in their video, which gets a chuckle out of Liam. So, Liam gives it a shot, too.
First, Liam gets a saucepan and milk. Mrgirlface instructs it doesn’t matter what kind of milk, but remarks they’re using a “scratched Teflon pan” and doesn’t care if it causes cancer. “So fighting cancer with cancer is really the only logical solution,” Liam says, comparing it to the saying ‘fight fire with fire.’ While boiling the milk, Liam stirs it slowly, but constantly. You want to be stirring it on medium heat, too. Liam stressed to “just leave it” if there’s anything burning on the bottom.
Next, at the request of Mrgirlface, Liam picks an acid, specifically apple cider vinegar. “If it’s their favorite, I’ll try,” Liam says. Any acid will do, which Liam shares a suggestion from a commenter that pickle juice works as well. At any rate, you stir the milk until it’s steaming and bubbling. Leave it off the heat for 20 minutes after you’ve added some acid.
At this point, Mrgirlface takes a moment to talk about their friend in the Gaza Strip and asked viewers to donate. They also stated that the TikTok “algorithm does not like” videos about Gaza. Removing his VR headset, Liam shares that he’s noticed the same. More importantly, Liam immediately drops $500 to Mrgirlface’s friend!
And in the next breath, Liam is back to making cheese. He drains the cheese through a strainer, resulting in what commenters have told him is ricotta. One patch even included pickle juice, which he admits is “kinda nice,” and gives the recipe an “I made cheese/10.”
What People Are Saying About Liam’s Cheese and Good Spirit
People obviously loved the wholesome nature of Liam’s video, but they were equally proud of Liam’s principles. It was nothing but love and admiration coming from his comment section.
“Not a stereotypical intro? Straight into instructions? Hilarious? AND is helping? Best cheese recipe video,” wrote one excited commenter. And together, the most wholesome cheese recipe video was born.
“See I know he’s not lying because I see so many of this man’s videos,” one commenter wrote, but admitted they never watched Liam’s videos before. “But watching this man immediately stand on business is so refreshing.” One commenter echoed the sentiment, writing, “Using correct pronouns? Donating to Palestine? Please keep proving you are the best influencer on this app.”
Hearing Liam say it affected his channel to post about the Gaza Strip was eye-opening, too. It still didn’t stop him from donating! Not to mention tasty-looking cheese.
