It’s clear that many parents take a permissive standpoint when it comes to raising their children. Where it used to be rare to see the sight, young teens are now permitted to roam the streets of major cities at night. Now, this free-range parenting style is starting to backfire. A rash of Teen Takeover events have been happening across the U.S., where teens hit up Urban Air trampoline park locations. They’re left alone for several hours and chaos ensues when the teens are in charge. One Toledo, Ohio mom decided to do her part when things got out of control.
TikToker @treyburry shared a clip of what happened at a Toledo Urban Air this weekend. A mom named Jessica Drinkwater jumped into action when she saw what appeared to be swarms of teens gathering at Urban Air. Things quickly got out of control, with teens screaming and breaking out into brawls. People stood around filming the chaos and staff members were sent in to allegedly break up a variety of fights amongst unsupervised teenagers.
In this particular video of the events that unfolded, Jessica clearly went into protective mother mode. She is seen telling parents to come get their kids, saying the scene is “atrocious.” She points to her vehicle and says, “I got all these kids in my [expletive] car” and shows a bunch of teens she allowed to sit in her vehicle until the scene is safe. They’re surrounded by patches of teens, police cars, and staff members. It looks like a literal war zone out there.
Jessica stands by the teens in her vehicle and tells them to not exit her vehicle. She verbally fights to keep them with her until their parents arrive. When one of the teens tries to leave with a group of teens, she says, “You don’t have to ride with me. Just stay over here!” It’s clear that she’s doing her best to protect them amidst the all-out chaos. This says a lot about her as a parent. The scene is pure loud insanity.
This is just one of many in the rash of Teen Takeover events that have been happening across the U.S. The same thing almost happened just days ago at an Urban Air in Atlanta, Georgia. When police caught word of the event, they sent out a large police response to prevent unsupervised teens at Urban Air. Previous takeover events happened in Cobb County and police recovered weapons from these incidents. It’s pretty scary when events get so out of hand that they basically have to declare it an emergency situation.
No matter how it went down, commenters praised Jessica for jumping into action to ensure the teens were cared for. Admittedly, it doesn’t sound like the best idea to immediately guide a bunch of random teens into your vehicle. But the point is, Jessica had good intentions and waited with them until they were in a safe situation. The fact that these teens were left alone without parents to do whatever they please says a lot. These situations can quickly get out of hand and then people get hurt.
One commenter praised Jessica, “I love to see an adult who cares!” Another commenter shared, “I saw someone on Facebook say they’ve seen kids get ‘dropped off’ for the day at this Urban Air. Toledo parents pls pls do better. My heart HURTS knowing y’all could put your kids in dangerous situations alone like this.”
