Ohio Poll Finds Two-Thirds of MAGA Voters Would Back GOP Candidate Accused of Sexual Assault: ‘Everything They Claimed to Stand For, All of It Was a Lie’

Family Values Meet Partisan Loyalty

A poll showing that two-thirds of MAGA voters would still support a Republican congressional candidate accused of sexual assault has detonated into an ugly argument over GOP “family values” in Ohio, where two Republican candidates are already facing controversies of their own.

The Politico and Public First survey found 66% of self-described MAGA voters who backed Donald Trump in 2024 would still vote Republican after being told the hypothetical candidate had been accused of sexual assault by a former partner.

For domestic violence, support climbed to 72%. Those numbers fell outside the MAGA bloc. Fifty-three percent of Trump’s 2024 voters overall would support the Republican accused of sexual assault, while only 42% of Republican-leaning respondents said the same.

But the figure that particularly infuriated critics was the partisan double standard. As reported by Tiffin Ohio, seventy-one percent of Republicans said a Democrat accused of sexual assault should leave the race. Only 52% said an accused Republican should do so.

On Ohio’s heavily liberal r/Ohio Reddit forum, that 19-point gap was treated less like a polling curiosity and more like proof that years of Republican rhetoric about morality have collapsed under partisan loyalty.

One Dayton commenter called the hypocrisy “staggering, yet unsurprising.”

Another Ohioan, describing a conservative upbringing, said the result had destroyed their trust in the values once preached by Republican mentors: “Everything they claimed to stand for, all of it was a lie.”

Ohio’s Republican controversies make the poll painfully real

The argument is hardly hypothetical in Ohio. Rep. Max Miller has refused to leave the November ballot after his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, alleged in court filings that he threw hot water on her, shoved her against a wall and held a gun to her head. Miller denies the allegations and has sued Moreno for defamation. He has not been criminally charged, and prosecutors declined to send the matter to a grand jury, citing insufficient admissible evidence.

The House Ethics Committee opened a review into whether Miller may have engaged in domestic violence, abuse or illegal drug use. The committee stressed that opening a review does not mean wrongdoing occurred.

Ohio Republicans including Sen. Jon Husted, have called for Miller to resign, but Miller has refused. For critics online, however, the wider poll made the controversy feel like part of something larger.

A Westerville commenter mocked the distance between Republican branding and political reality, listing claims about “fiscal responsibility,” “the Constitution” and “law and order” before arguing the party had abandoned each principle when politically inconvenient.

Another Ohio commenter reduced the anger to two loaded words: “Family values.”

Reddit is hardly a balanced sample of Ohio, and r/Ohio skews heavily anti-MAGA. But that is precisely why the reaction matters politically. The poll measures loyalty on the right. The thread reveals something else brewing on the left: not surprise anymore, but disgust, exhaustion and an increasingly hardened belief that Republican standards depend on which letter appears beside a candidate’s name.
