Ohio Woman Calls Another Driver ‘Ratchet and Ghetto’ During Gas Station Fight, Sparking Racism Debate: ‘So Racist’

Just wait your turn

Two Ohio women got into a heated argument at a gas station after one asked the other to move from an air pump. The creator accused the other woman of being aggressive, while the woman called her “ratchet and ghetto.” The remark split viewers fast, with some calling it racist and others questioning why the creator was parked so long in the first place.

Posted to TikTok by @teenana99, the video picks up already in progress, with the other woman saying she’d just gotten gas and wanted air in her tires. She says she knocked on the creator’s window to ask if she was finished, only to be told she’d “sit there all day.“

The two go back and forth from there. The woman claims the creator turned “nasty” the moment she knocked. @teenana99 denies it. That denial is what prompts the woman to call her “ratchet and ghetto.” She also accuses her of being needlessly angry.

The Ohio creator insists she stayed calm through the entire exchange and never raised her voice, saying it was the other woman who became aggressive. The clip ends with the woman climbing back into her car, still arguing as the video cuts off.

The Comments Get Personal

The phrase “ratchet and ghetto” became the focal point for a lot of commenters, who read it as a racially loaded insult. “This is how they flip the script on Black people. Calling someone who is speaking proper English ratchet and ghetto is sooooo racist, the aggression from them gets no label?” one user wrote.

Some viewers sided with the creator on the dispute itself. They argued she wasn’t obligated to move faster just because the other woman was in a hurry. A few commenters said the entire argument wasn’t worth having in the first place. “You couldn’t PAY me to sit there and argue with somebody while my KIDS are in the car. Nothing is worth that,” one wrote.

One commenter stepped back from the dispute entirely, poking fun at how normalized filming these confrontations has become. “Ppl holding phones videoing each other argue! Oh how the world has changed!” they wrote.

Not every commenter sided with the Ohio creator, though. Some argued her own delivery worked against her. “Calling someone ‘babe’ in this context is very condescending, and you saying ‘now you’re walking away’ is antagonizing. So really, from this video, I get that you’re the one instigating,” one wrote.

Another questioned why she was still sitting at the pump if she wasn’t using it, pointing out it “isn’t a parking spot.”

At the end of the day, this probably could have been avoided with a little patience. Not every inconvenience needs to become an argument. Sometimes waiting a few extra minutes is better than turning a minor delay into a major confrontation.
