There are a lot of great foundations and support groups for the LGBTQIA+ community. However, several organizations also believe in working against them at every turn. One Ohio woman thought she’d have a little fun when she decided to call the “Pray the Gay Away Hotline,” which resulted in one church revealing more than they probably should (likely in good faith, ironically enough). I’m not surprised a church receptionist has the tea on someone!
TikToker Pettyshanks put on a very convincing Southern accent for the woman on the other end of the Pray the Gay Away Hotline. She addresses herself as “Luan” and tells the hotline, “I’m seeking someone to pray with me about something that is going on in my marriage.”
She tells this sham tale of being married to a man named Jeremiah since she was very young. Luan, in a desperately real-sounding plea, tells the lady at the hotline she thinks her husband is gay. She argues it’s because he’s been growing closer to a series of men since their marriage began. I don’t know if TikToker Pettyshank realizes this (or was her intention), but Luan’s fake backstory of a good Christian wife seeing men being friends as an issue is cinema. It’s so toxic!
Poor Luan continues her sob story, “I fear he may be doing ungodly things with them behind my back. It’s starting to seep into our marriage,” and admits bedroom play only works when it includes “photographs of other men.”
In a hilarious turn of events, the receptionist tells Luan that this happening to married women isn’t new at all. She actually admits, “This is pretty common,” but what the receptionist failed to realize (or doesn’t care) is that her religion demonizes it to the point of abuse. Plenty of unfortunate people get sent to gay conversion camps.
After Luan recounts some of the horrors of her marriage, the receptionist leads a prayer with her. Giggling can be heard in the background of Petty’s video. The receptionist prays for God to make Jeremiah “miserable till he gets this out of his life,” and “Satan is here to destroy families,” before hanging up.
One commenter joked, “Plot twist: She’s an atheist and only wanted the job so she could get all the tea.”
Another person stated, “When a prank turns to independent journalism.” For journalism’s sake, I’m glad “Luan” made the call. There’s no love like Christian love!
