Olivia Rodrigo just shared the wildest story. During a new interview with Jimmy Fallon, the “Vampire” singer revealed she was almost arrested earlier this year while on the road for her Guts world tour. Rodrigo had been trying to reenter the U.S. after performing in Canada when border police accidentally mistook her for a felon. The mixup forced her to undergo an intense interrogation. Although everything turned out alright, Rodrigo said she unfortunately experienced a panic attack over the whole thing.
Olivia Rodrigo Interrogated By Border Police During Guts World Tour
While discussing her new Netflix film on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Olivia Rodrigo said the incident was “the first time” she had a run-in with the law. It happened when she was traveling from Vancouver to Portland during her Guts world tour in August. “We were at border control,” she began. “I give them my passport and they knock on the door and they’re like, ‘We need Olivia.'”
Rodrigo thought maybe the police wanted an autograph for their daughter. However, she soon realized she couldn’t be further from the truth when the officers escorted her to an interrogation room. “There’s like, a big cop with a gun. He’s like, ‘Have you ever been arrested?’ I’m like, ‘No, I haven’t been arrested,” she said.
Since they kept pressing her, Olivia Rodrigo said she had begun “gaslighting” herself into thinking she may have been arrested before but didn’t remember it. When the police sensed her uncertainty, they made her even more nervous when they told her she could “go to jail for lying to a federal officer.”
Rodrigo explained she had started “freaking out” over the possibility of not being able to reenter the U.S. “I’m so scared. I’m, like, having a panic attack,” she recalled.
After being questioned for 30 minutes, the police eventually realized they confused Olivia Rodrigo with Olivia Rodriguez. “He’s like, ‘Oh, there’s a girl that looks just like you, that’s your same age and has been arrested multiple times. Her name is Olivia Rodriguez,” the pop star said.
Although Rodrigo was “p*ssed” over the mix-up, she was just relieved she could return home. “Phew, crisis averted,” she said.
