It’s official: space tourism is now an ongoing thing, and Katy Perry is among the few celebrities able to partake in the new frontier. Still, as with all things associated with space travel, it’s ridiculously expensive. Hence, another celebrity, such as Olivia Wilde, has criticized Katy Perry’s recent adventure, basically calling the space mission a waste of money.
Olivia Wilde, 41, has taken to Instagram to post an Instagram Story recently, and in it, she shared a meme of Katy Perry kissing the dirt after the successful Blue Origin Space Mission landing. The meme alludes to how normal people react after getting off “commercial flights in 2025.”

Olivia Wilde, however, added her own caption, stating that the Blue Origin Space Mission tourism was simply how “Billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess.” That’s likely because Blue Origin Space Missions costs hundreds of millions or perhaps more for several passengers. Katy Perry notably deposited $150,000 (as per the website). A seat was even auctioned for $28 million back in 2021.
Meanwhile, the flight at the edge of space only lasts for around 11 minutes, meaning the preparation for the space mission was, in fact, longer than the space flight itself. Some semblance of astronaut training (and likely fitness requirements) is also required before the candidate is able to actually join.
Moreover, Blue Origin is owned by Amazon magnate Jeff Bezos; his partner, Lauren Sanchez, is actually one of the passengers in the recent Blue Origin flight, along with Katy Perry.
So Much Hatey on Katy
Of course, it’s not just Olivia Wilde lambasting Katy Perry and the other passengers of Jeff Bezos’ space flight tourism. The absurd act of spending billions of dollars more or less to send people to space for 11 minutes is what some people believe is not exactly a wise usage of such wealth.
Hence, Katy Perry took the brunt of the mockery and online hate since she’s one of the most popular people on board the Blue Origin flight. Some people pointed out how Katy Perry is still looking to stay relevant long after her music career sank, while others agreed that the celebrity is not one for wise decisions, seeing as she married Russell Brand, though that was years ago.
“Katy Perry will try anything to stay relevant besides make good music,” jokes Redditor originalcarp
“She thought Russell Brand was marriage material and praised the Cybertruck. We know why she can’t make music people enjoy,” replies Redditor hrowtheclownaway20
“She’s right. It’s a massively wasteful publicity stunt,” in response to Olivie Wilde’s criticism, according to Redditor SineQuaNon001
Clapping back at the critics, however, Lauren Sanchez and Gayle King of the recent Blue Origin mission told their critics that people worked hard for the 11-minute flight. Sanchez even invited the critics to come over to see what it’s really all about and how eye-opening it is, assuming critics can afford it, that is.
