Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, is over the moon following the animated series’ renewal for another season. The Netflix series, based on Oda’s highly acclaimed manga, has just gotten the green light for a second season. While we don’t know when One Piece Season 2 is going to be out, Oda has shared his excitement for Inaki Godoy and the rest of the cast, who are on the road to becoming “big Hollywood stars” in Oda’s own words.
One Piece Manga Creator Overjoyed By Live Action’s Season Renewal
Eiichiro Oda first started publishing his manga, One Piece, in 1997. Since then, it’s spanned 106 volumes, multiple animated series, and most recently, a live-action adaptation on Netflix. Many fans of the manga were cautious when news of the adaptation first broke, but Netflix’s One Piece has climbed the ratings since its debut earlier this year. Eiichiro Oda himself has only had good things to say about the series and its cast, including Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Following the news that Netflix’s One Piece had been renewed for Season 2, Eiichiro Oda posted the following message on Twitter/X, referencing his continuing work on volume 107 of the manga.
The One Piece live-action series was unveiled to the whole world and I am happy that it was very well-received. Just a thought but if Inaki who played the role of Luffy and the others as well will be on their way to becoming big Hollywood stars, that would mean that I will become a friend of these big Hollywood stars! Isn’t that awesome? Everyone from the cast, please don’t forget about me ok? Well then, I would be drawing in my room as usual. Let’s start Volume 107 now.”

If the live-action adaptation of One Piece continues as it has been, Oda might be right in calling the cast the next big thing in Hollywood. It would certainly be nice to see attention shift towards more mangas that could use this kind of careful adaptation.
Unfortunately, not much is currently known about what One Piece Season 2 will contain or even when it’ll be out. Production of the series is being held up by the SAG-AFTRA strike, but the writers have announced their plans to move forward anyway. We’re sure Eiichiro Oda, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, is as excited about the new season as anyone else.
