Christopher Nolan is a year out from releasing his war-themed biopic on the creation of the atomic bomb with an all-star cast. Cillian Murphy leads Oppenheimer with a poster highlighting his role as the theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who became known as “the father of the atomic bomb.” The film is due in theaters on July 21.
The Oppenheimer poster shows Cillian Murphy looking dapper in his suit while he stands unflinchingly in front of a fiery explosion, showcasing the devastating power of the weapon that the man he will portray created with the bombs that were used on Japan in World War II.

While the cast is stacked high for the upcoming film, we have not gotten a look at anyone else outside of the Peaky Blinders actor between the Oppenheimer poster and a first look that showed the leading actor in a close shot with a cigarette in his mouth. We do know that Emily Blunt will play his wife Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer; Matt Damon as Lieutenant General Leslie R. Groves, the head of the Manhattan Project; Robert Downey Jr. playing Navy representative Lewis Strauss, who turned against the project, and Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, a Communist Party member who had a relationship with the creator of the atomic bomb while he was still married to Katherine. The film will also star Matthew Modine, Jack Quaid, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, and more.
Using as source material with American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin, Nolan will write and direct the biopic. He will produce with Emma Thomas and Charles Roven, and Thomas Hayslip will executive produce. The film will see the filmmaker reunite with previous collaborators like the leading man (Inception, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Dunkirk), Oldman (Dark Knight trilogy), Branagh (Dunkirk), and Damon (Interstellar).
