Despite Oregon locals pushing back, their streets are now being overtaken by military troops in an effort to stop what Trump calls a “war zone.” Portland Police Chief Bob Day even said himself in an interview, “No, I would not say Portland’s war-ravaged.” He went on to say, “In the last couple of years, under my administration, we’ve seen great strides made in the area of crime and safety.” However, TikTok user Mick the Deck is showing Portland is anything but ravaged. In fact, it looks pretty average to her on a normal day.
Mick the Deck recently received a text message from a relative, who asked her if she was okay in Portland, Oregon because they heard the news. So, she decided to make a video on October 9, 2025 showing “a day in my life in ‘war ravaged’ Portland.” She leaves her house with her lunch in hand and stops at a little convenience store. Note how it’s pretty empty. She then drives her vehicle through northeast Portland. Everything is pretty quiet and there are a lot of small businesses she passes along the way. She notes that, because there are many small businesses, “everything’s closed Monday-Tuesday around here.”
Mick makes her way to her own small business on a quiet street, called Midslumber Media. She notes her business is a horror film and literature store. Looking through the window of her shop, Mick notes, hilariously, “The ‘boarded up’ windows the president keeps talking about.”
She shows a map of Portland on the screen and shows where there are current protests and an ICE facility. It’s an incredibly small area compared to the rest of Portland. She claims the news doesn’t “care to clarify” just how small this area is. Why would they when President Trump is trying to make an entire city look bad?
“Portland is far from perfect but I’ve never felt unsafe here until now. And like I told my relatives, it’s not the protestors I’m afraid of,” Mick said, ending her video.
As one commenter pointed out, “My family is in Texas. No matter how much video I show them they don’t believe I’m safe.”
One other commenter comically replied, “No no see I was told there were no stores so you couldn’t possibly be driving by all these businesses with gasp glass windows and not boards!” With more locals coming out and posting videos, it’s obvious Portland is fine.
