Rumors that the original Doom trilogy was going to be coming to the Nintendo Switch ramped up early Friday morning. During the early minutes of Quakecon 2019, Bethesda confirmed that Doom, Doom II, and Doom III are indeed arriving on the Switch, as well as the PS4, and Xbox One.

The news marks yet another retro franchise that is finding new life on the current generation consoles. The Nintendo Switch especially seems well suited for these kinds of games. The versatile console even promotes the company’s backlog of retro titles through its online program.

The announcement that the original Doom trilogy is being released on consoles on Friday was a nice aperitif to the news and previews that Quakecon goers were waiting for during the opening keynote. Bethesda didn’t keep attendees waiting long to get a bit more information about the upcoming Doom Eternal. The company showed some gameplay as well as announced a few new heavy-duty demons that will be out to stop players as they journey through one level of hell after another.

Players will have to be patient before they get their hands on Eternal, but can at least whet their appetites with the classic titles until November. The three games can be purchased separately with the first two installments at $4.99 apiece, with the third installment priced at $9.99. That means you can get the trio for a grand total of $20. That’s certainly comparable to the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and Contra Anniversary Collection, which can both be had for $19.99 each.

It appears Nintendo had a bit of a “whoopsie” moment earlier in the day as they accidentally listed the newly available titles before anyone was supposed to know they were available. Bethesda has become known for announcing certain games will be “available immediately” whenever they appear at a conference like Quakecon so the damage done to the excitement over premature listing was quickly erased.

The original Doom trilogy is now available on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Doom Eternal is launching on those three consoles as well as PC and Google Stadia on November 19th.

Are you going to purchase any of the original Doom trilogy games now that they’re available on more consoles? Let us know in the comments below.
