Oscar Isaac is attached to portray the central role of Solid Snake as the Metal Gear Solid film adaptation from Sony gains momentum.
Deadline reported that Oscar Isaac, who had his breakthrough role in dramatic comedy film Inside Llewyn Davis, is attached to the movie adaptation of the popular video game.
The Jordan Vogt-Roberts film, which is currently under development under Sony Pictures, is based on the Metal Gear Solid video game created by Hideo Kojima. The game was first launched in 1998 on PlayStation. It follows Snake, who is a soldier that infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize a terror threat from renegade special forces unit, Foxhound.
The acclaimed game has always received praise for its storytelling and cinematic feel that has always been perfect for a movie adaptation. The upcoming film will have a script from Derek Connolly with Avi Arad producing and Peter Kang exec producing.
For Isaac, his role on Metal Gear Solid could be another major franchise role for him following his recent stint in the Star Wars franchise. In other work, the busy actor is also set to star in HBO’s Scenes From A Marriage opposite Jessica Chastain, a titular role in Marvel’s Moon Knight for Disney+, the much-awaited reboot of Dune, and Paul Scharader’s The Card Counter.
He is also set to star in and produce an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn’s Ex Machina comic retitled The Great Machine as well as star in Barry Levinson’s Francis And The Godfather, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
A production date has not been announced yet for Metal Gear Solid but it’s expected that Isaac’s involvement in the project will make it a high priority for the studio.
