In a heartbreaking Facebook post, Luciana Duvall, Robert’s wife, confirmed that he passed away peacefully at home, “surrounded by love and comfort.” She spoke lovingly about the beloved actor, saying that, more than an Academy Award winner, he was “simply everything.”

“His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court,” Luciana wrote. “For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.”

Remember his countless critically acclaimed roles, Luciana said that Robert “gave everything to his characters” and to the “human spirit” they represented. She concluded, saying, “Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”

Duvall’s cause of death remains unknown.

Remembering Robert Duvall

Robert Duvall was born in 1931 in San Diego, California. He attended the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City at the age of 24. He became friends with other future Hollywood stars, including Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman, and his career began.

Following his stint in New York theater, he got the role of Boo Radley in 1962’s To Kill a Mockingbird. For the next decades, Duvall starred in iconic films such as The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, M*A*S*H*, and Apocalypse Now.

In 1983, Duvall starred as Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies. His performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. In total, he was nominated seven times in the Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Supporting Role categories at the Academy Awards. Films include The Great Santini, The Apostle, A Civil Action, and The Judge.

The actor’s last credited role, according to IMDB, was the gothic thriller The Pale Blue Eye in 2022. He starred alongside Christian Bale, Gillian Anderson, Toby Jones, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, among others.

Duvall married his fourth wife, Luciana Pedraza (now Duvall), in 2005.
