A recreational moment at a Florida retirement community ended on a sad note. In what seemed like a fun pastime, some members of the community participated in a golf cart race. However, the fun moment unexpectedly became a disaster when two drivers crashed into each other.
Footage capturing the incident was posted on Reddit and captioned, “My grandpa’s retirement community is out of control.” As seen in the clip, a blue golf cart was approaching from one side of the road at speed, while a yellow golf cart was advancing in the opposite direction. Both vehicles nearly collided, but the driver of the blue cart saved the situation as he swerved and drove away. However, there was still disaster looming.
While the yellow vehicle continued, another incoming blue cart was driving at speed on the other side of the road. Both drivers swerved simultaneously and in the same direction to prevent hitting each other, causing damage.
Unfortunately, the cars collided, and the force of the hit threw the blue cart’s driver out of the truck. The elderly man slammed his body against the other vehicle and was seen holding his legs and head, reeling in pain.
Soon enough, other riders gathered around the scene, possibly offering help to the injured man. In no time, the video caught Redditors’ attention, and several reacted to it. One user commented on the impact of the accident, writing, “Now, they all dislocated their hips.”
Another person theorized that elderly people are endangering their lives. The user wrote, “Boomers are literally a hair away from Thunderdoming themselves. They’ve all lived far longer than they expected and have no idea what to do with their existence.”
Another user questioned, “Combining old people and fast-moving golf carts with no rules, what could go wrong?” This commenter added, “If my retirement isn’t like this, I don’t want it,” while a fourth person wondered, “How the f— did these idiots even live to retirement age?”
A few days ago, another golf cart crash happened at the retirement community. Village News reported that the driver was at a “careless speed” when he turned into the Summerhill postal station. The car tipped onto its side before crashing into a Mitsubishi parked at the roadside.
Emergency services responded to the incident, and the driver was taken to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital for “treatment of a minor injury described as road rash.”
Perhaps the one way to stop these accidents is to keep elderly people away from the wheels of a golf cart.
