What happened to Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota was truly a tragedy, yet despite that there are still people who deny it. These people would argue that the two were in the wrong and that it was right for the ICE agents to shoot them. One geography teacher in California was even recorded by his student ranting about this very topic. The teacher argued that the ICE agents had tried to warn her and that despite that she tried to ram him.
He also claimed that the same officer had been run over by a car six weeks prior to the tragedy. This seemed to be the California teacher’s justification as to why the ICE agents decided to open fire on the woman. “You don’t know what’s happened to them,” the teacher said. He said that since she put herself in a bad position, what happened next shouldn’t be surprising. However, he soon backpedaled, saying that he wasn’t saying that Renee Good should be shot for what she did, but that it was the consequence of her own actions.
The student, bananapiggy50, who was currently secretly recording in the classroom, had been raising his hand the whole time. The California teacher eventually saw what he was doing and let him talk. bananapiggy50 denied the teacher’s claim that Renee Good was trying to ram the ICE agents, saying that the video clearly showed her car trying to move away and give them space.
Another student, a female classmate, also spoke up, backing up bananapiggy50. This was also the point where the California teacher showed that he was homophobic, with him supporting Trump because he didn’t like LGBT people. He said that Renee Good should have just followed what the officers were saying since that was what he would do.
The video soon ended after that, with the student revealing that the California teacher got suspended for what he said in the classroom. That didn’t make people happy though.“Fire him,” one user said.
Others found the California teacher’s argument weak and nonsensical. “This is what I don’t get. People like him say things like ‘I’m not saying she should’ve been shot…’ but she was shot. Either you agree with it or you don’t. Don’t sit there trying to placate one side just so you can try to pretend you’re not a bigoted person.” one commenter wrote.
Some Redditors applauded the students for speaking up against the California teacher and correcting his claims about the incident. “Bravo to these kids, showing courage to speak up to a teacher. It’s scary to use your voice to say something contrary to a figure who has some kind of power or authority over you. Bravo. I hope more will learn the power of their voice. It gives strength to others who hear.” one Redditor said.
