Over 80% Of All Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Sales Were On The PlayStation 5

Going exclusive would have been a bad idea

The latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 6, is the first game to launch day one on Game Pass, or any subscription service for that matter. And it turns out, that not only has its physical sales dropped by 10% in the UK compared to MW3, but it has also been a massive success on PlayStation 5. 80% of all Black Ops 6 sales were on the PlayStation 5, confirmed Chris Dring.

12% of total Black Ops 6 sales were on the Xbox Series X|S, while the remaining 8% was on the PlayStation 4. This shouldn’t come as a shock since the Call of Duty series has always been a massive success on Sony’s consoles.

Although this isn’t international data, it is still indicative of how little impact the Activision purchase had on its flagship shooter on the PlayStation. This is exactly why Call of Duty exclusivity was never on the table when Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard.

The only reason there has even been a drop in sales, albeit a lot less significant than originally anticipated, is the availability of Black Ops 6 on Game Pass.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has had a tremendous start on all platforms, both critically and commercially. Just on Steam, the player peak has crossed 300,000 players. Although it still hasn’t matched the nearly 500,000 players of Warzone back in 2022, it is still a positive trajectory.

On consoles at least, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is doing very well in terms of sales and player experience. But on PC, the story is a bit different. Some players have been experiencing technical issues like bad performance, crashes, spawn issues, and more. This has resulted in the game having a mixed rating in Steam reviews, but Activision is investigating the matter, and future patches should improve this situation significantly.
