Sometimes, behaving like a Karen isn’t as extreme as being racist or rude in public. Instead, it can simply be someone who is needlessly demanding to a polite worker in a store. In fact, recently, an overly entitled Florida Karen recorded herself during an interaction with a CVS employee, and while said worker was polite, she did make the Karen wait for a few moments. As a result, the Karen shared the video publicly and tried to get the employee fired.
The video clip takes place in a CVS store and is recorded from the perspective of the Florida Karen in question. Accompanying the footage is the caption, “Ima get her fired. CVS MIAMI BEACH U DONT MAKE ME FCKN WAIT‘. Speaking to the worker behind the counter, the Karen asks, “Can you ring me up?“It’s tricky to make out what the CVS employee states, as what she says is very quiet, but it sounds like she is politely asking the Karen to use the self-checkout. The Karen doesn’t want to use the self-checkout, however, and wants to be served by the employee, for some unexplained reason.
“No, I don’t work here, so I don’t self-checkout. I need to be rung up.” responds the Karen, though it looks like the employee has her hands full as she is putting things in boxes, presumably for another customer’s order. “Well, you should handle me first before that. Whatever you’re doing, I just want to pay for this, okay.” After a few moments, the Karen exclaims, “Is there a manager working? Okay, so can you wait for that and ring me up because I have other stuff to do. You have all night.”
In a polite and well-mannered tone, the employee replies, “I also have other stuff to do, ma’am. I’m going to try and help you as best as I can. Okay, I’m going to pack this order. This person is coming to pick it up.” As the employee continues to pack the other customer’s order, the Karen simply responds, “Okay.” and the footage ends shortly after.
Despite the relatively ordinary exchange, however, the Karen went on to post the footage online in a bid to try and get the CVS employee fired from her job. This is what has sparked attention to the video, as the Karen is undoubtedly being overly entitled for her unwarranted and malicious behavior.
While the Florida Karen’s original post on Instagram is gaining very little traction — it has no comments and around 111 likes — the Reddit post is garnering more engagement, largely due to how spiteful the Karen is behaving towards the CVS employee online. One Redditor wrote, “Imagine recording yourself being an a*shole and then posting it.” while another added, “the โiโm going to get them firedโ mentality is so weird. why would you want to mess up someoneโs source of income??” Elsewhere, another commenter weighed in with, “Because their own lives are so pathetic to such a level that they must also make everyone else suffer” while a fourth remark simply read, “Power trip“.
It’s unclear whether there was any blowback for the CVS employee in question. Hopefully though, the Florida Karen will realise how foolish she looks for trying to get a person fired over such an insignificant interaction.
