Overwatch 2 just released a trailer for their latest skin collaboration, and my wallet is aching. The cool, jazzy, classic anime Cowboy Bebop is Overwatch 2’s next collab, and my goodness, there are some really cool skin concepts here at play. Overwatch 2 has had some collaborations before with other IPs and some nice skins have come out of those, but if done right, I don’t think anything will come close to the pizazz of Cowboy Bebop. (There is lots of bias here, I admit.)
Overwatch 2 x Cowboy Bebop
Let’s start with some of the obvious skins that were announced. Cassidy as Spike Spiegel was almost a given, as Cassidy is Overwatch 2‘s resident cowboy. It would only make sense to make him a space cowboy, although he’s missing the trademark hair. The next skin you probably could have guessed is Ashe as Faye Valentine, the space cowgirl making her appearance next to B.O.B. Then there’s Sombra as Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivurski the IV, and it only makes sense that hacker plays hacker.
A couple of skins came out of left field for me, however. Mauga as Jet Black fits perfectly, although I did expect Doomfist to rep Spike Spiegel’s fellow bounty hunter instead. I also wasn’t expecting Ein to get some representation here, but we have Wrecking Ball dressed up as everyone’s favorite corgi as well. You can see all of the aforementioned concepts in an animated trailer posted above, although we don’t have any in-game models of the skins just yet.
I’m not expecting any more skins to come out of this event, although it would be nice if some important side characters such as Vicious or Julia to get some representation as well. That being said, this is shaping up to be a stellar crossover, and it’s certainly a collaboration that I could have never expected.
