Overwatch 2’s New Hitboxes For Season 9 Are Ridiculous

Bullets the sizes of buses.

Overwatch 2 can’t seem to decide what exactly it wants to be. The hero shooter from Blizzard is well known at this point for making sweeping changes from the start, changing a 6v6 game into a 5v5 one. While I’m personally on board for that change, there’s something in Season 9 of Overwatch 2 that’s rubbing players the wrong way, and it has to do with a meta-shifting rework to the entire game that may count as a sequel on its own.

The New Overwatch 2 Season 9 Hitboxes Are Silly

In Season 9 of Overwatch 2, Activision Blizzard countered the sustain meta and other player frustrations by making sweeping changes to the game. To keep it brief, the HP numbers for all characters have increased, and new passives exist with built-in anti-heal that make healing less prevalent. But the most controversial change so far is an overall increase in the projectile sizes in the game. Designed to make shooting feel more responsive, it seems to completely disregard the reward for aiming well instead.

At least, that’s how some players in the community feel after testing out the changes. One Redditor u/_TomBoi_ posted a video testing Mercy’s new projectile sizes from her weapon on a Tracer, and you can see the crosshair straying far away from Tracer’s actual body. But with the new projectile sizes, all the bullets land, and it seriously looks silly. The post is aptly titled “How am I supposed to miss these shots?” That’s what I’m asking.

For those who think this is a Mercy issue, Overwatch 2 player Metro would respectfully disagree, seeing as how Sojourn’s bullets are also the size of massive anvils. Regardless of how you feel about these changes, there’s still some testing to be done. Some players are reporting that the time-t0-kill doesn’t feel too different, likely thanks to the HP pool increases. At least Hanzo can’t one-shot squishy heroes anymore. The game is saved!
