Mario finds himself on Prism Island, which has been robbed of all colour. Armed with the new paint hammer, Mario must return the island to its former glory. The debut trailer showed Mario walking around a beautiful paper scape, slamming his hammer into the geography to splash it with colour and collect coins. We even see Mario hitting a grounded Toad with the hammer to revive him from a colourless state. We also get a look at a floating paint can with eyes, that can only be Mario’s new sidekick in the adventure.

Paper Mario Color Splash is sure to retain the series' trademark charm.

The series is known for its cartoon-like, simplistic graphics and addicting RPG gameplay. The last two entries swapped out the RPG mechanics for a real-time battle system. It remains to be seen in Color Splash goes back to basics.

Paper Mario Color Splash will be the fifth main game in the series.
It’s a paper party!

Paper Mario Color Splash will release on Wii U later in 2016, but no exact date was given.
