Mario fans got some tear-ific news earlier today. Announced on the Nintendo of America Twitter page, Paper Mario is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online library later this month. Paper Mario is a “story for the pages”:

After Bowser steals the Star Rod and kidnaps Princess Peach, Mario plots to rescue the seven Star Spirits and free the Mushroom Kingdom from the Koopa’s rule. As Mario travels from the tropical jungles of Lavalava Island to the frosty heights of Shiver Mountain, he’ll need all the help he can get. Master the abilities of the seven Star Spirits and the other allies joining the adventure to aid our hero on the battlefield.”

Paper Mario was originally released in 2001 for the Nintendo 64. Loved by fans, the series continued with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in 2004 for the GameCube, Super Paper Mario in 2007 for the Wii and Paper Mario Color Splash in 2016 for the Wii U. The recent iteration in the franchise, The Origami King, released in 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.

Paper Mario will be available through the Nintendo Switch Online library on Friday, December 10. Until then, Nintendo fans can check out other classics like Mario Kart 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Starfox 64, and more.

Originally, the Switch Online library only held NES and SNES titles, but earlier this year Nintendo released the expansion pack. This expansion, available now, added Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis classics to the library. For an individual Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, the price is set at $79.99 a year.
