The Nintendo Switch remake of the classic JRPG Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door just got its official release date. The new version of possibly the best game on the GameCube from 2004 was officially announced in late 2023 and slated to be released sometime in 2024, and thankfully Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door appears to be coming a lot sooner than many were expecting.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Switch Release Date
The news hit social media earlier today as part of the slate of major announcements that came as a result of it being Mario Day (March 10th AKA MAR10). The Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be arriving on May 23rd, just a little over a couple of months away. This will be the first new Paper Mario release on the Nintendo Switch since Paper Mario: The Origami King back in 2020.
The gameplay footage that’s been released thus far for The Thousand-Year Door makes it seem like a fairly straightforward remake that could almost be classified as more of an enhanced port. It doesn’t seem like Nintendo is intent on changing much in terms of gameplay or story, and there isn’t any news about any major content being added at this point either, but the already impressive art style of the original release appears to be modernized and improved on Switch hardware to look stunning. The original game is considered not only one of the best titles on the GameCube but one of the best video game releases of the 2000s, and having it available on the Switch will certainly be a hit with many nostalgic players.
