Protests against Elon Musk aren’t the only thing spreading across Texas. The Pauline Road Fire in Sam Houston National Forest has now spread to approximately 2,388 acres. Only 20% of the fire has been contained. A TikTok by user6066730551663 (aka Janet) captured shots from the scene. In the footage, towering walls of smoke can be seen through the forest near what appears to be the Texas resident’s home. As the fire continues to rage through the national forest, the environmental and economic costs both climb. Extreme weather is sweeping the globe, and now Texas is ablaze.
Sam Houston National Forest Blaze Hits 2,388 Acres
Between the hostile weather and video game crackdowns, Texas faced its share of problems already. Hostile weather can overwhelm sensitive infrastructure in any season. Neither heat nor cold has been kind to Texas this year. Though the Pauline Road Fire has not spread across Peach Creek into Montgomery County yet, it has forced mandatory evacuations in some areas along the county line.
The TikTok showing the fire burning by Janet’s house drew supportive words and broken heart emojis. One commenter wished the creator and others in the area well, saying, “Oooh Lord !! praying for y’all. I live in Fostoria close to 105, we were evacuated last night [Sic].” With an unpredictable blaze, social media is often a key means of sharing news about unexpected changes. Janet, at least, has been fortunate so far. According to the OP,
It was so very close! I am Thanking God because it should have came on our land and burnt our houses down. We are living on land that was over 100 years old with family all around us [Sic]
Approximately 900 homes are in evacuation areas at the moment, but the situation is evolving all the time. Low humidity and high winds have only made things worse, making it easier for wildfires like the Pauline Road Fire to consume large swathes of Texas. As the state grapples with getting the blaze under control, the importance of scientific watchdogs and climate scientists becomes even more obvious.
