Payday 3 is coming in September, and its fanbase is wondering about every single detail of it. The main expectation is more game content, more realistic gameplay, and advanced online features. Today we learn a new detail about one of those big expectations, the online features. As announced by one of the game producers, Payday 3 will require an active online connection to play. The previous title, Payday 2, did support an offline mode -even though the AI wasn’t that smart- and playing solo was another level of robbing stores. Why did the team make it mandatory, and is Payday 3 coming with an option to play with bots? Here are the answers.

An Active Online Connection Is Mandatory on Payday 3

The detail is unveiled on a live stream hosted by Almir Listo, one of the game’s producers. One of the viewers asked if the game has an offline play option, and he replied, “No.” He also claims that there will be a single-player mode, but the player must have an online connection to play it.

His reason for the connectivity decision is Unreal Engine’s background features and the game’s cross-play support. We can also guess that piracy is one of the reasons behind that. Since the reason is technical, we also hope to see a good result from those restrictions.

In fact, Payday 3 isn’t the only recent game that decides online connectivity is mandatory. Game studios always look further to improve the social features of their games, and it’s harder to produce a pirate copy of a game that is only running on the internet. The detail we are thankful for is that the game’s single-player mode will still exist. That’s because the solo experience could be a different fun from time to time, and it’s great to see it continuing on the third installment of the series.
