With God of War Ragnarok hitting the Steam client, players were ecstatic to install and boot up the game. However, the game’s score gets lower and lower with every passing day. It’s not due to a technical issue or a bug but the fact that players are forced to connect their PSN accounts to play. The issue is similar to when PlayStation asked Helldivers 2 players to connect their accounts.
Currently, God of War Ragnarok is sitting at 4,200 ‘Mixed’ reviews, with many players grievances simply being with the account connection. There are many players who choose not to own a console or subscribe to their online accounts, making this forced action one that weighs heavily on players. It’s a good thing that there’s a mod on Nexus Mods that can help bypass this.
Despite the mod’s existence, players are still upset about the issue. One reviewer states,
The mod helps bypass having to connect to a PSN account whenever you want to play Ragnarok on Steam is titled NoPSSDK. It’s simply a small library that strips the PlayStation PC runtime requirement for the game. All a player would need to do is install the game, copy the mod into the game’s folder, and enjoy. Sometimes, the screen asking players to log in will still appear, but a player can just select ‘No.’
The difference between it happening now and when it happened with Helldivers 2 is that when players revolted, PlayStation responded. They’ve since removed the feature from the game, so I am hoping that they will also hear the feedback from players trying to enjoy God of War Ragnarok on Steam.
God of War Ragnarok is available to play on PC and PlayStation.
