Pedro Pascal is no stranger to the LGBTQ community, having expressed his support for them throughout the entirety of his career. In fact, if you weren’t aware, the The Last of Us actor has a trans sister, Lux, whom he has openly supported at various events. Now, Pascal is continuing to make headlines throughout the community after wearing a t-shirt by late artist and trans woman Pippa Garner on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Pippa Garner was a prominent Los Angeles artist who rose to artistic stardom for her parody forms of consumer products. Her projects have taken the community by storm and she turned many of them, especially her slogan projects, into t-shirts. However, the shirt Pedro Pascal wore during Jimmy Kimmel Live was revealed to be an unreleased, limited edition version.
More specifically, Garner’s estate is exclusively selling the shirt bearing the words ‘Adult Content’ to raise money for The Trans Justice Funding Projects. The project is part of the grassroots fundraiser Mother Daughter Holy Spirit. Considering just how popular the actor is and how many people typically tune into Jimmy Kimmel’s show,
“He’s doing promo for potentially the biggest TV show of the year and using that spotlight for this?
That’s allyship.”
The collection also features shirts with various slogans on them from other trans artists and celebrities, including Lux. Other involved artists include Chloe Sevigny, Francesco Risso, Willy Chavarria, and more! Realistically, this is a step in the right direction for the community concerning having a forward-facing appearance in the lives of Hollywood’s society.
Hopefully, more celebrities will step forward concerning the rights of our fellow gay and trans humans. While we have definitely seen more inclusion in film, television, and video games, they’re typically met with scrutiny from those who consider it ‘too woke.’ The fact that Pedro Pascal chose to do this is a step in the right direction, and I can only hope that more similar instances will begin cropping up.
