AI isn’t just a massive waste of energy, but some videos are so easily mistaken for reality. That kind of power can have anyone believing almost anything, from encouraging harmful behaviors to major privacy issues. It’s something we should be more wary about but it seems most people aren’t taking it seriously. A Pennsylvania TikToker shared some concerning videos made with OpenAI recently, and why we should be more worried about AI in general.
“Tell the people your truth, Jake Paul,” TikTok user PearlMania500 says in his video, laughing. He then pans to an OpenAI video shared by a makeup company. In the video, AI “Jake Paul” says he has an announcement to make and shares, “I’m gay,” and then holds up a makeup set, presumably for sale by the company that posted the video. Alex points out the video was “100% AI-generated” and “broke reality.”
The video had hundreds of thousands of views, in addition to people interacting with it on social media. He said a lot of people commented, “Didn’t realize that was AI” because it looks so fool-proof. Alex then goes on to say, “Reality is dead!” then shares numerous fake, AI videos of celebrities.
In one video, Michael Jackson and Kobe Bryant (both deceased) sell nicotine pouches. In another, Ronald Reagan opens Pokemon cards. Alex claims this is a good way to prove “history is dead” and people will rewrite it with AI the way they see fit. But this tweaking of history isn’t even the most concerning thing. Alex goes on to say they’ve also been tweaking “body cam footage” with AI. This means somebody could frame a person they don’t like and take matters to court, leading to a possible arrest.
“George Orwell’s 1984 was far more prophetic than he likely could have ever imagined and it’s insane how we get closer to his written dystopia every single day,” one commenter said. Another person stated, “I just know once a Republican politician gets framed from AI we’ll finally have some regulations on it,” which is true, funny, and upsetting all at the same time.
