There’s no denying it, it’s cold right now, and some states in the US are feeling all 11 inches of that cold buildup, leading to moderate inconveniences for many, especially in the case of snow-trapped cars. For one man in Pennsylvania, however, the winter chill not only brought snow with it, but also an opportunity for him to earn, as he apparently earns hundreds of dollars just by shoveling cars out of their icy prisons.
This rather energetic interaction, which took place on January 31, was posted by a Philadelphia resident who got curious at the sight of the old man shoveling the snow around his neighborhood. In the video, you can even hear the old man claiming that the snow buildup was higher than the door handle on the car, making it well above 11 inches. Nevertheless, the old man managed to clear out the blockage.
“She paying $125… If you don’t have a job, there’s no [expletive] way you can’t make it!” claims the hustler. According to the original poster’s caption, the old man has been doing the winter side hustle for years, though it’s not clear whether his rate was also $125 in the past or if it’s a recent thing due to how bad the snow is right now.
The old man’s claims have since piqued the interest not just of the video’s author, but also hordes of people online. Still, it’s not exactly a sustainable business model and only works for a few weeks every year, and you’d also have to have a healthy back to do it, something many working adults don’t have these days.
People online are worried about the hustler
Initially, a lot of online commenters have praised the old man’s business sense, and he is doing an essential job for his community anyway. “Yeahhh BO HUSTLER OF THE YEAR,” commends one Facebook user, while another also shares a similar sentiment, “Respect to Unc 💪🏾 Turned a bomb cyclone mess into straight cash. $125/car ain’t cheap, but after 11+ inches buried everything and Philly streets still look like Antarctica on day 3, people were desperate. I’d pay it just to not break my back before work.”
Speaking of breaking backs, however, that’s what some commenters were mostly worried about, as shoveling just about anything for hours is not exactly light work. “That man back and arms finna be on fiireeeeee,” jokes a Facebook user, while an X user also warns the man, “Be careful Shoveling is hard on your Body🫶🏽.”
Others were in disbelief at how high car owners are paying just to undo nature’s handiwork, stating that $125 might be a little too steep for shoveling snow. Still, some of the more bona fide hustlers in the comment section believe that the old man should be paid higher, “Bro that’s almost free, you should charge more!!!!” Certain snow shovelers are not as fortunate; some even had to do it for food after getting cheated.
