Imagine you take something you care about to a store to be fixed and they just break it? You probably wouldn’t be too happy about it. Then, they make things worse by saying they can send it somewhere else to be fixed… But you’ll be footing the bill. This is why a man was riled up at a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania mall after he took his watch to have a battery replacement. The situation didn’t get any easier when security showed up and the worker started crying.
User @vipetv0 shared a video on TikTok titled, “My first Karen moment & a security Boo dumb as a Brick.” The video, which took place at the Willow Grove Mall, shows the man standing his ground after a worker just broke his watch. He explains to a security guard that he tried to bring his watch to a watch store to have the battery replaced. However, when she couldn’t get the screws back in the watch, she told the customer, “Just leave.”
The customer explains to the security guard that he wasn’t charged for the service. However, the young woman working at the stand told him that she could send his watch to another servicing business. The catch is that he would then be charged for the work they did on the screws. She yells at him, “There’s nothing else I can do, sir!” She then turns to the security guard and asks, “Can you please remove him?” The entire time, the security guard is standing there looking clueless, not knowing what to do.
It’s at this point that the young worker starts crying. The woman recording the video, presumably the customer’s wife, asks, “Why are you crying?” She continues crying and trying to defend herself as another worker comes over and tries to deescalate the situation. In the end, he didn’t get results as he attempted to have his watch fixed. The worker handled the situation poorly and immediately jumped on the defensive for something that was her mistake.
Commenters couldn’t believe how poor the customer service was in this situation. One commenter stated, “She’s wrong!! I work at a jewelry store, we wouldn’t work in watches that we didn’t carry in the store because we would be liable for the merchandise. The company needs to compensate him for damages of the watches.” Another person asked, “Why is security involved? The manager of the store should be involved.” Of course, the security guards seemed to have more sympathy for the worker’s white tears. I hope that the company resolved the issue but it’s not likely he ever had his watched fixed there.
