This presidential administration has been nothing short of absolutely insane. Since earlier this year, new laws and bills have been implemented that not only harm American citizens but can completely cut off their rights. An implementation that was made while Donald Trump was president during his first term, an abortion ban, forces women who are victims of sexual abuse to carry their child to term. Now, to make matters worse, a woman in Georgia is expecting to do the same; the difference is that she is brain-dead and cannot make decisions for herself.

The above video is just one of many aimed at raising awareness for Adriana Smith, a Georgia woman who was declared brain dead by doctors back in February but is expected to be kept on life support until her baby is born in roughly five more months. At the time of the declaration, Smith was already two months pregnant, which contradicts Georgia’s very strict anti-abortion laws. As a result, a body that cannot produce any voluntary movement or bodily function will be forced to produce a baby that will likely not live.

Anyone with a right mind can see that this is medical neglect, especially considering that someone (likely Smith’s family) will have to pay for the resources being used to keep her alive. David S. Cohen, a professor at Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law explained that the hospital’s strange behavior to keep the woman alive is likely due to the law that gives fetuses human rights. Commenters on the above video agree, with one person saying, “It’s definitely a experiment! I hate this world!“

This situation brings into conversation the meaning of life and what is qualified as a living person. It cannot be determined if the living thing in question can make its own decisions, leading some to believe it would be immoral to kill them without consent. Hopefully, we can see Adriana Smith and her family left alone to grieve over the loss of a mother and her child.
