Eager fans, the Greek gods have been listening to your prayers after all. Earlier this week, Rick Riordan, author of the much-beloved Percy Jackson series, took to social media to announce that a live-action series based on the popular franchise is in the works at Disney Plus.

As of this writing, information for the Percy Jackson series is limited. Riordan promised that story would begin with the first book, The Lightning Thief, and diligently follow the tales from there. This super-popular franchise steeped in Greek mythology follows Percy Jackson as he travels the world in search of Zeus’ lightning bolt. Along the way, he and his companions meet various Greek gods and mythological creatures.

This won’t be the first time Percy Jackson has been brought to the screen. The first two books, The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters, were made into successful films in 2010 and 2013. However, fans of the series (and Riordan himself) were ultimately unhappy with the adaptations.

In a blog post on his website, Riordan tried to reassure fans:

We can’t say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one. Rest assured that Becky & I will be involved in person in every aspect of the show. There will be much more news in the future, but for now, we have a lot of work to do! Buckle up, demigods. It’s going to be a fantastic, exciting ride!

As of this writing, no release window for the live-action series has been announced.

Are you hoping that Percy Jackson finally gets the live-action treatment it deserves? Or were you okay with the films? Let us know in the comments below, and keep coming back to The Nerd Stash for all of your nerdy news and needs!
