The Persona franchise is known for the wild directions its story goes as much as it is for its stylish combat. Persona 3: Reload has two different endings: one bad and the other good (aka the true ending). Akihiko, Aigis, and the rest of the party have been through a lot. The game’s finale gives you a chance to set things right (or not). Though both endings are satisfying in their own way, the good ending offers a lot more in terms of content, making it the better of the two overall. Here are the requirements to get the true ending in Persona 3: Reload.

Some games with branching narratives make it tough to get the ending you want due to how many choices affect the finale. That isn’t the case here. The requirements for getting the true ending in Persona 3: Reload are surprisingly simple because it all comes down to one big choice on December 31. Without spoiling the big reveal, you’ll be instructed to “choose wisely” and decide whether or not to kill a major character or spare their life. Choosing to kill them results in the bad ending, sending you into a series of cutscenes before the credits roll.

If you want to see the true ending of Persona 3: Reload, you need to spare this character’s life instead. Specifically, you need to select this option twice in a row. There’s no way to undo this decision except for reloading your save file. Be careful to pick correctly. By choosing the true ending, you can continue the main story through January. You can even fight the true final boss. The true ending of Persona 3: Reload also grants you the From Shadows into Light achievement, which is just one more reason to be the good guy this time.

Persona 3: Reload is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
