In early May 2023, a heartbreaking social media post revealed Pete Davidson’s dog, Henry, had passed away. A few weeks later, the American comedian was seen getting a new furry friend with his girlfriend, Chase Sui Wonders. While it was a happy moment for the couple, PETA didn’t agree with the pair’s decision. Despite the great relationship between PETA and Pete Davidson, the animal rights body slammed the Saturday Night Live alum. According to them, Davidson should have adopted the canine from a shelter instead of buying it.
PETA Is Disappointed in Davidson
Pete Davidson’s dog, a Cavapoo puppy, is cute, but that isn’t enough to keep the actor safe from criticism. The Bupkis star came under fire following his decision to get the four-legged friend from a pet store rather than a shelter. Now, PETA has joined the bandwagon in expressing its disappointment. On Monday, Daphna Nachminovitch, the Senior VP of Cruelty Investigations had a chat with TMZ to address Davidson’s questionable decision.
Nachminovitch began by describing the Hollywood star’s decision as tragic. According to her, “a scrappy New Yorker” with personality, charm, and unconventional handsomeness could have been Davidson’s perfect match. Next, on behalf of PETA, she urged the comedian to show some big heart energy by considering adoption in the future. The VP said adoption was important as shelters in New York and across the country were overflowing with homeless animals.
The group’s decision to comment doesn’t come as a surprise, given PETA and Pete Davidson’s previous relationship. In April 2021, at PETA’s annual Oscat Awards, Davidson bagged the Best Costume honor for sporting an animal-favored T-shirt. Davidson wore the T-shirt, which read “Hunt Mushrooms, Not Animals,” in his Judd Apatow-directed dramedy, The King of Staten Island.
Henry’s Death
The Pete Davidson dog saga comes about a month after the actor lost his dog, Henry. The comedian shared the heartbreaking message on his friend’s Instagram page, describing Henry as a “key member of the family.” According to the television personality, the dog got very sick, very fast, and died, aged two. Davidson further opened up about how Henry saved his life. The star noted that he and his mom got the dog at the beginning of the pandemic and he wasn’t sure if he would have been alive without Henry.
Davidson ended the lengthy caption with a message of gratitude to Henry for making his life fuller and reminding him of what truly mattered. Overall, it is quite evident that the SNL alum is a dog lover. If he chooses to get another dog, hopefully, he takes lessons from this situation.
