Sad news for Doctor Who fans flows through the internet today. Although a great majority of the fans may have sighed a breath of relief when Moffat announced he has stepped down as head of Doctor Who the same cannot be said for what will happen to our current Doctor (Peter Capaldi). It seems that with the addition of a new show runner (Chibnall) Peter Capaldi might have to step down as The Doctor in order to give Chibnall a chance to cast his own doctor; to give Chibnall’s run a fresh start according to the Mirror.
Last month Capaldi said “This could be my final year and it’s terrifying,” which leads me to believe he was well aware that Moffat was stepping down and given how David Tennant stepped down after Russel T. Davies left as the head writer the same might happen to him.
I am not one of Moffat’s biggest fans. He has taken some odd turns in storytelling as head writer for Doctor Who but Peter Capaldi was the light in his more than often wibbly wobbly plots and I’m genuinely upset to hear that he might be leaving after such a short run. It just seems like there is so much more about this Doctor that we have yet to explore. Fortunately, Capaldi will be with us for another year which will hopefully give us enough time to come to terms with the idea that he will no longer be the face that greets us when we tune in to watch Doctor Who; that old wrinkly very happy to be there face.
Chibnall will be given a chance to pick his own Doctor, which means he just might see that keeping Capaldi on for a bit more is what he truly wants in his heart. It’s an unlikely scenario but I would rather not go through another Doctor farewell (it still gets me whenever I re-watch Tennant’s last episode). Get to the internet and start making your voice heard about how upset you are about Capaldi leaving the show.
