Microsoft has never shown any intentions to VR games so far and Phil Spencer says the platform still needs to grow more.

Similar to the rise of streaming platforms over the last few months, there was a time when gaming VR headsets started growing and taking over the industry with a stronger pace. HTC, Oculus, PlayStation, and Valve have invested a lot of money on VR headsets so far both in hardware and software sections. Having said that, the platform still has way more road to get a solid and safe share of the industry’s community. However, with most of the company’s entering the VR area, Microsoft still stays out of this new interactive platform and it seems their decision isn’t going to be changed anytime soon.

Speaking to Gamertag Radio, Phil Spencer made it clear that Xbox Series X won’t be supporting VR headsets or games at launch and probably years after that. Actually, Microsoft will get involved in VR whenever it sees fit to do so. Right now, the platform hasn’t grown enough to justify a huge amount of investment, so they place the emphasis on the essential abilities of the console and streaming functionalities which seems to have a brighter future than VR gaming. However, they still keep an eye out for VR supporting.

Xbox

Over recent years, Sony has launched some worthy VR titles such as Astro Bot: Rescue Mission and Blood & Truth, receiving favorable reviews from media. On the other hand, Valve will be releasing Half-Life: Alyx as a launch title for its VR headset. In the case of hardware, Facebook’s Oculus has made significant improvements since its first headset. The company is now producing wireless Oculus Guest headsets. Considering the progress that VR-supporting companies have made compared to their early days in that area, it seems sooner or later Microsoft will have to announce its own VR technology.
