It seems that we’re going to get more Xbox news sooner rather than later.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer sat down for an interview with YouTuber iJustine’s Same Brain podcast to talk about the recent Xbox Games Showcase showcase and what’s next for the platform. Throughout the interview, Spencer commented on various topics like the Halo Infinite and Fable reveals along with how huge of an impact Game Pass had on the event. At the end of the interview, the conversation shifted towards backwards compatibility. Spencer said he was “encouraged” to talk more about the Xbox Series X and backwards compatibility sometime in August.
Although Spencer never mentioned an August event, his comments fall in line with various reports over the past few weeks. As reported by Eurogamer, an Xbox Series X event is currently planned for August that’ll also act as the reveal for the heavily rumored Xbox Series S console. For those who don’t know, the rumored Xbox Series S will reportedly a cheaper but less-powerful version of the Series X.
Xbox Game Pass Isn’t Going To Other Platforms
In the Same Brain podcast interview and various others, Phil Spencer has been adamant about Game Pass being one of the pillars of Xbox going forward. In an interview with GameStar, Phil Spencer addressed rumors of the subscription service coming to other gaming platforms:
“The thing about other gaming console platforms is we’re not able to bring a full Xbox experience on those platforms,”
“In places where we have brought Xbox – mobile phones like we’re doing now with Project xCloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate [and] what we’ve done with PC bringing our full Xbox experience there – we know when somebody is playing one of our Xbox games there is an expectation that they’ve got their Xbox Live community, they have their Achievements, Game Pass is an option, my first-party library is completely there…”
“The other competitive platforms really aren’t interested in having a full Xbox experience on their hardware. But for us, we want to be where gamers want to be and that’s the path that we’re on.”
