Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, will be the newest recipient of the AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences will honor Spencer at the 25th Annual D.I.C.E Awards ceremony on February 24th. The 2022 D.I.C.E Awards ceremony will be streaming live from the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Bethesda Game Studios game director and executive producer Todd Howard will present Spencer’s 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award.
It will be a disappointment if they don’t make an Xbox achievement notification graphic for him.
Phil Spencer’s long career
Since joining Microsoft in 1988, Phil Spencer has had many different roles. Such as Executive Vice President, Gaming; Head of Xbox; Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Studios; and General Manager, Microsoft Game Studios EMEA. He has had quite a career in the technology and entertainment field. He received his new title, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, just last month.
Spencer has led the Xbox team throughout his career during multiple console launches. Including the Xbox One and all of its variants and the new Xbox Series X and S., He has influenced world-renowned franchises such as Gears of War and Forza. He has also led the expansion of cross-platform gaming with the Xbox Network and invested in subscription business models with Xbox Game Pass and Microsoft’s introduction of Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Phil Spencer has also been the face of Microsoft’s multiple acquisitions. Companies such as Mojang, Obsidian, Ninja Theory, and Bethesda, just to name a few. Microsoft recently made a big splash by acquiring Activision Blizzard for a staggering $68 billion.
Spencer and his team continue to push the boundaries of creativity, technical innovation, and fun across genres, audiences, and devices.
In good company
The AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to individuals whose accomplishments span a broad range of disciplines over a lengthy career in the industry. Recipients are known for their business leadership and are not necessarily involved in the development process. Above all, these individuals have driven significant and positive change across the industry.
Phil Spencer is in good company, joining fellow recipients such as Satoru Iwata (2015) and Genyo Takeda (2017).

Phil Spencer has demonstrated both passion and leadership throughout his entire career at Microsoft. He’s responsible for countless impactful and pivotal initiatives that have reverberated throughout the entire gaming industry.
