Sports mascots have always been the soul of almost every match. Most of them tend to make fun things to give fans a laugh while their team plays, while others just perform unhinged things that also give us a good laugh. A recent video shows the beloved Gritty, the Philadelphia Flyers’ mascot, chasing a Penguins Pittsburgh fan away from the stadium. While it is fun and all, we have to admit that being chased around by Gritty evokes a bit of fear. Yet, it is something we can expect from this googly-eyed sensation.
The original video comes from the official @grittynhl account on TikTok but Reddit user r/musicgoddess also shared it on the r/TikTokCringe subreddit. In it, we can see Gritty chasing a Penguins fan wearing the #87 jersey away from the stadium. In the video, Gritty says he’s “helping a random Penguins fan get home safe.” It is also worth mentioning that this is the first part of the video. It is uncertain if the fan actually got home safe, but knowing Gritty, we’re sure he did a proper job.
Naturally, many fans got a good laugh from this situation, while others mentioned how the chase has some nightmare fuel in it.
“Gritty is the best mascot in any sport in history.” – OvechknFiresHeScores via Reddit.
“I’m a Penguins fan and this made me laugh so hard. Just sent it to entire family. Gritty is a mascot we can all root for.” – applecartupset via Reddit.
“Thank you for your service, Weird googly eyed monster” – ChassidyBrooks74 via Reddit.
While we can all agree that Gritty is lovable in many ways, we must admit that no one would like to be chased by him. Despite his many fun antics and being a national treasure for many, those googly eyes can evoke a bit of fear. Yet, Gritty was just doing a good service here. We only hope the Penguins fan arrived at their home safely, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the second part of the video to see the outcome.
