Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise rejoiced today at the news that the latest movie’s release date is now a whole six weeks earlier. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is now scheduled to release on May 26, 2017, rather than July 7.
The previous installment in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has already been out for almost five years, and it has been a while since any developing news about the next project for Captain Jack Sparrow. While many people have been questioning if Pirates of the Caribbean would continue, you can be assured that Disney will continue to push out movies as long as the series continues to be profitable.
However, we still know very little about this fifth movie. Johnny Depp will be returning to the popular role of Captain Jack Sparrow, of course. Sparrow is searching for the lost Trident of Poseidon to help him fight against his latest enemies, led by Captain Salazar. Salazar will be played by Javier Bardem.
Depp is not the only one returning to the franchise. Geoffrey Rush is also returning as Captain Barbossa. And after being cut out of the action in the fourth film, Orlando Bloom is once again returning as Will Turner, who last we saw had just become captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman.
After such a long break for the series, it’s nice to see some light at the end of the tunnel – or rather, just over the horizon.
