A Pittsburgh city employee’s unfortunate experience put a whole new meaning on ‘crappy Mondays’ when a toilet exploded under him while he was using the restroom. The 65-year-old Pennsylvania man was minding his own business doing his own business when suddenly, the toilet’s plumbing fixture broke, causing a gash to his leg. Fortunately, the injury was minor enough that the victim of the potty blast could walk himself to the hospital, according to WPXI.
This incident was seemingly bound to happen, as plenty of much-needed repairs at the city-county building have gone on with attention for months. Other reported issues include problems with the heating, broken urinals, mold and peeling paint on walls, and even broken elevators. City councilman Anthony Coghill admits that management has not been “not taking care of their own house.” Coghill went on to say, “I notice every crooked shutter and every dripping faucet; I’m afraid to do an in-depth look at all of our facilities because I’m afraid of what I would find.”
As unfortunate as this situation was for the Pittsburgh city worker, that didn’t stop followers of the news from having a good laugh. “What a crappy way to get hurt at work!” comically remarks one Reddit user. “When the torlet blows up you,” jokes another. “He blew the bathroom up but not in the way he wanted.” chuckles a third. And, of course, one person had to comment the cursed Gen Z word, “Skibidi.”
Jokes aside, the people managing the facilities of the city buildings in Pittsburgh need to get their act together for the sake of their employees’ safety. One Reddit user commenting on the news story claims that the municipal buildings in the Pennsylvania city are “so run down that police and firefighter recruits didn’t have heat for 4 months.” Another commenter points out how lucky the Pittsburgh man was that the top exploded instead of the toilet bowl. Besides dangerous infections from the dirty toilet itself, porcelain shards can do serious damage to the skin due to how sharp they can be when shattered or broken.
That said, hopefully, this incident will be a wake-up call for the city council to consider better maintenance of their workers’ facilities. No one wants to return to the office if they can’t do their business on the toilet in peace, not to mention all the other building’s issues needing attention.
