Disney and Pixar have officially dropped a full teaser trailer for the upcoming Toy Story spin-off film, Lightyear. The new Pixar film, based on the Buzz Lightyear toy, is set for a June 17, 2022, release.
Lightyear –Â Infinity Awaits in 2022
Lightyear follows the story of a test pilot who, one day, becomes a space ranger. His adventures in space eventually come to inspire the creation of the Buzz Lightyear toy. In the trailer, the pilot is seen flying near the sun, wrestling with monsters, and encountering ominous foes. In addition to the action, we also get the first look at the Buzz Lightyear spacesuit in its glory, all while being backed by an orchestric “Starman” by David Bowie. Make sure you keep an eye out for some easter eggs that might or might not include Emperor Zurg, Buzz Lightyear’s arch-nemesis. Be sure to watch the full trailer right here.
Lightyear‘s narrative is being produced as a spin-off project from the Toy Story franchise. The film will tell the origin story of the aforementioned space ranger, and rather not Buzz Lightyear himself. So, don’t expect to see Woody, Buzz, and the gang in Lightyear. This also means that the film won’t adapt any Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoons. This will be an original introduction to a character that influences the in-universe creation of Buzz Lightyear.
The new Pixar film will see Chris Evans in the starring role. Angus MacLane, who’s been working at the famous animation studio since A Bug’s Life, will take the director’s seat. However, there’s no word if we will get to see a cameo from Tim Allen yet.
Pixar’s Lightyear is set to release on June 17, 2022. It will be the studio’s 26th official project to date. Are you ready to go into space with Chris Evans? What did you think of the Lightyear trailer? Let us know in the comments below!
