It’s time to destroy the world with a friend. Plague Inc. Evolved has a two player multiplayer mode coming next week on December 1st. Originally released for Android and iOS in 2012, Plague Inc. got a fancy new upgrade last year for its release for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux in the form of Plague Inc. Evolved. In the game, players take on the role of a disease trying to eradicate humanity before a cure can be discovered. The new update promises a unique versus mode to an already unique strategy game.

The multiplayer update will begin infection on December 1st.
The multiplayer update will begin infection on December 1st.

Rather than one player taking the role of disease and one player the role of humanity, Plague Inc. Evolved will have a versus mode where both players will take on the role of rival doomsday plagues infecting the same world. According to the release from developer Ndemic Creations, both players are pitted against the AI (in trying to avoid being detected and cured) as well as each other (if one disease can kill all people infected by the other disease, they will wipe it out and win the game). This will open up the strategy of the game a great deal, as there will be many ways to approach your doomsday plot. In addition to this new mode, Ndemic promises, “all new evolutions, abilities, and genes to help [players] in their struggle for dominance as well as slowing their opponents.”

Plague Inc. Evolved already saw a bizarre update that was a tie-in for the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This update is rather unexpected, but could breathe some new life into a fun little game about destroying the world in the most efficient way possible.
