Microsoft had set a new standard for video game delivery when they released Gears of War 5 via Xbox Game Pass. With a small subscription, which many already owned, players were given unrestricted access to the triple-A title Gears of War 5 along with many other games. Well, now Microsoft is offering us an even better excuse to join in on the brutal gore-fueled beauty. Gears of War 5 is the latest title to join Microsoft’s “Free Play Days.” A service offering quality games at a very affordable price of $0 to gamers of both Xbox One and PC.
As part of the new promotion from April 6th – 12th, Gears of War 5 will be completely free to play. Yes, that’s right, now everyone can partake in the delicate pastime of chainsawing those uncultured Locust dregs in half.
The best part is that it doesn’t matter what platform you’re on as Gears Of War 5 will be freely available on Steam, Xbox, and via the Windows Store. To make this deal even sweeter is that the game is one of the few that offers cross-play between PC and Xbox—offering players the choice of hardware while giving them the freedom of playing with friends regardless of the system.
The free play week comes just in time for new players to get a taste of the recently released mode, Operation 3: Gridiron. The update features a football-themed capture-the-flag mode. Where players are involved in short 2-minute rounds, tasked with picking up a flag and running into the opponent’s end zone. The update also offers the return of the Dave Bautista skin and execution. Featuring the iconic wrestling champion Dave Bautista slaying locust hordes with his signature execution – The Batista Bomb.
Lastly, with a set of new challenges on offer, players can score and quick and easy 500 Microsoft Reward points. In case you don’t know, Microsoft Rewards is a free service where you can sign up to earn points by playing games, shopping, and generally doing day-to-day activities on your Xbox. These can be redeemed for free Xbox Live subscriptions, gift cards, and you can even donate them to charity.
With all the new reasons to jump back into the Gears universe, I, for one, can’t help but be even more excited for the upcoming Gears Tactics releasing on April 28th.
