Celebrating its first anniversary in June, the overhauled and improved PlayStation Plus is holding giveaways that will go on for 10 days. More importantly, Sony is introducing cloud streaming for PlayStation 5 games, quite the addition for people already subscribed. This will allow players to enjoy their PlayStation 5 games on various systems. But, being a cutting-edge feature, it will only be available to people who are subscribed to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier, the highest bracket available. Finally, Sony has also announced a handful of new games that will be joining the catalog this month, and it has a couple of big ones. Remember, the free games for June are still available if you have not claimed them yet.
New Games Coming To PlayStation Plus In June 2023
Starting from June 20, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will have access to an impressive lineup of games, including:
- Far Cry 6
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
- Rogue Legacy 2
- Inscryption
- Soulstice
- Tacoma
- Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
- Killing Floor 2
- WWE 2K23 – Trial Version for PS4
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will soon be getting its new Shellshocked DLC, so this is the best time to get your hands on the game if you love being a turtle. The other standout on the list is Inscryption since it is one of the most beloved indies from the last year.
Streaming PlayStation 5 Games
In a blog post on the PlayStation Blog, Nick Maguire, the head of subscription services at Sony, shared more details on the addition of game streaming for PlayStation 5 games. He explained that the current testing phase focuses on streaming games solely to PlayStation 5 consoles, eliminating the need for time-consuming downloads. At the same time, ensuring players can access the latest releases, like the Final Fantasy 16 Demo. Provided you have a stable enough internet connection, that is. Only PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 games can be streamed, with compatibility across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. Maguire emphasized that the testing phase is still in its early stages, promising more updates.
That said, people still looking forward to day one exclusive should wave that dream goodbye as Sony remains committed to its strategy of not offering first-party day-and-date launches through its subscription service, distinguishing itself from its counterpart, Xbox Game Pass. Maguire explained the reasoning behind this decision, saying:
“By introducing games later in their life cycle, we can reach a broader audience, even 12, 18, or 24 months after their initial release. We continue to witness customers getting genuinely excited about these games and diving in. From our perspective, this approach is proving successful.”
This shows that Sony is sticking to its guns and subscribing to the idea that if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. And that can’t be argued, considering Sony’s success.
