Pokémon GO How to Catch Shiny Mega Charizard
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

Those wanting to catch the Shiny versions for Mega Charizard Y and Mega Charizard X will be happy to know that these variants exist in Pokémon GO. Shiny Mega Charizard Y features purple skin and a crimson tint for the interior portion of its wings, while Mega Charizard X has greenish skin with the same shade of crimson for the inside of its wings. Keep in mind that both Shiny Mega forms revert to the dark-colored Shiny Charizard and must be given 200 Mega Energy to transform into their Mega versions again in Pokémon GO. Fortunately, this transformation only costs 40 Mega Energy every subsequent time.

Catching Shiny Mega Charizard in Pokémon GO

Catching Shiny Mega Charizard In Pokémon GO

To catch Shiny Mega Charizard in Pokémon GO, Trainers must be very lucky to encounter one in a Mega Raid. There is about a one-in-sixty chance that Mega Charizard Y or Mega Charizard X will spawn as a Shiny variant. Unfortunately, players do not have any means to influence or change this RNG-based possibility.

Nevertheless, once Trainers have found Shiny Mega Charizard in Pokémon GO, they will need to know the best counters to defeat and catch it. Starting with their weaknesses, Mega Charizard Y is a Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon, making it vulnerable to Rock-, Water-, and Electric-type attacks. Conversely, Mega Charizard X is a Fire- and Dragon-type Pokémon, making it weak to Ground-, Rock-, and Dragon-type abilities. With these elemental weaknesses in mind, the top counters for a Mega Charizard X Raid in Pokémon GO would be Shadow Salamence, Shadow Dragonite, Mega Latios, and Mega Aerodactyl. A Mega Charizard Y Raid can be countered with Mega Aerodactyl, Shadow Tyranitar, Shadow Aerodactyl, and Terrakion.

However, since not every Trainer will have these Shadow, Mega, or Legendary Pokémon, they can use the Pokémon listed below to counter Shiny Mega Charizard X in Pokémon GO.

  • Salamence: Type – Dragon and Flying | obtained by evolving Shelgon | Fast Move – Dragon Tail, Charged Move – Outrage
  • Rampardos: Type – Rock | obtained by evolving Cranidos | Fast Move – Smack Down, Charged Move – Rock Slide
  • Garchomp: Type – Dragon and Ground | obtained by evolving Gabite | Fast Move – Dragon Tail, Charged Move – Outrage

Next, here are the optimal counters to beat and catch Shiny Mega Charizard Y in Pokémon GO:

  • Rampardos: Type – Rock | obtained by evolving Cranidos | Fast Move – Smack Down, Charged Move – Rock Slide
  • Rhyperior: Type – Ground and Rock | obtained by evolving Rhydon | Fast Move – Smack Down, Charged Move – Rock Wrecker
  • Tyranitar: Type – Rock and Dark | obtained by evolving Pupitar | Fast Move – Smack Down, Charged Move – Stone Edge

Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
