The summer heat is rising in July 2023, and Pokemon Go Trainers have an excellent opportunity for the month’s scheduled Spotlight Hour picks. While some might wish to avoid the hot weather outside, you certainly do not want to miss out on the featured Pokemon for July. During this midsummer month, we can expect to see Rufflet, Wailmer, Rhyhorn, and Yungoos. Rhyhorn, in particular, is part of the evolution line of a top-tier pocket monster, Rhyperior.
All Pokemon Go Spotlight Hours for July 2023
A simple table below displays all the featured Pokemon for the Pokemon Go Spotlight Hours in July 2023, including their Event Bonuses:
Pokemon | Spotlight Hour Time | Event Bonus |
Rufflet |
|
|
Wailmer |

|
Rhyhorn |
|
|
Yungoos |

Unless you already plan to participate in all four, we highly recommend you take time out of your schedule for Rufflet and Rhyhorn. After 50 Candy, Rufflet evolves into Braviary, one of the best Flying-type pocket monsters for mid to higher-end Raids. As noted above, Rhyhorn should undoubtedly take priority, as Rhyperior is one of the best Rock- and Ground-type evolutions in the Pokedex.
Rhyhorn first evolves into Rhydon with 25 Candy. However, the jump from Rhydon to Rhyperior requires 100 Candy, including a Sinnoh Stone. Fortunately, Rhyhorn’s Spotlight Hour in July 2023 provides double Catch Candy as its bonus, granting you a boost to quickly reach the requirements for Rhyperior.

Of course, we do not mean Trainers should overlook Yungoos or Wailmer, as they are worthwhile if you like their designs. Wailmer, in particular, needs 400 Candy to evolve into Wailord. So if you’ve been struggling for months to gather the Candy needed for Wailord, the evening of July 11 is an excellent opportunity for you.
How To Prepare for July 2023’s Spotlight Hours
During the night before or the morning of a July 2023 Spotlight Hour’s date, we suggest you clean out your Pokemon Storage. You’ll need plenty of room if you plan to catch dozens of a featured pocket monster. Additionally, if you have any PokeStops near your home, school, or workplace, remember to spin their discs as often as possible. Frequently taking a few seconds to collect PokeBalls can go a long way for farming Catch Candy or XP during Spotlight Hours.
